Note: Presently, most CCSM POP users view their output using Ferret (see below), NCAR graphics tools, or commercial visualization software. Diagnostics tools for CCSM POP output are currently under development; when they are available for general use, they will appear on the CCSM web pages.
Ferret is a visualization tool developed by Steve Hankin at NOAA's Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) in Seattle. It is designed specifically for visualizing ocean model output and data. Ferret is constantly being improved and extended, and there is a very active email-based user group. For more information about Ferret, check the website http://ferret.wrc.noaa.gov/Ferret/ or contact Steve Hankin at hankin@pmel.noaa.gov.

VCS is a visualization tool developed by Dean Williams, Bob Drach and others in the DOE-sponsored Program for Climate Model Diagnosis and Intercomparison (PCMDI) at LLNL. Although originally designed for visualizing atmospheric model output from the Atmospheric Model Intercomparison Project (AMIP), VCS is equally applicable to ocean model output and data. Like Ferret, VCS is constantly being improved and extended. For more information about VCS, check the website http://www-pcmdi.llnl.gov/software/ or contact Dean Williams at williams@pcmdi.llnl.gov.
