CESM Models: Pacific Basin Model -- Experiment Series p001

When run: Fall 1997

Models used:

  • the NCAR CSM Pacific Basin Ocean Model, pac-3.c, in stand-alone mode

Synopsis:

This series provides a baseline run for the standard pac-3.c code. This series also includes comparison runs with mods including:

  • the pac-3.c code with slight alterations in the KPP mixing scheme parameter values, and
  • the pac-3.c code minus the KPP mixing scheme, and with only seven levels.
  • the pac-3.c code using new momentum and/or heat forcing.

Computer Resources:

This case used about 1.3 CPU hours per simulated year on a Cray C90 with a 4.17ns clock, and required about 8 MW of main memory. These numbers apply to the 15 level version of the model.

  • this is a duplication of p001.05 except ...
  • the KPP mixing scheme has been removed. The enhanced vertical mixing coefficients are computed as they were in pac2 codes.
