DPLE exhibits significant skill at hindcasting multidecadal fluctuations in summertime precipitation over the Sahel region of Africa, skill not seen in the previous CCSM4 DP system. This project is focused on understanding the drivers of skill, the sensitivity to ensemble size, and the relative roles of tropical and extratropical SSTs.
