A mechanistic study of interannual to centennial-scale subsurface oxygen dynamics in the Pacific Ocean

Co-Author: Taka Ito
The objective of this study is to better understand the mechanisms of interannual to centennial-scale subsurface O2 variability of the Pacific Ocean in the context of natural variability as well as anthropogenic trends. Ocean biogeochemical tracer fields will be analyzed to characterize the anthropogenically forced trends (i.e. ocean deoxygenation) and the effects of climate variability from interannual to centennial timescales potentially including the effects of ENSO, PDO, shifts in water mass structures, thermocline and intermediate water ventilation, and deep meridional overturning circulation.
